Anomie ...
Occurs during presentation of the idea of what the informal organization is. Barnard refers to a sort of paralysis that manifests as an inability to choose or may be conflicted in what to do. He puts this in reference to the individual being unable to decide This refers to the individual being unable to decide "which activity he wishes to indulge in, or what groups he wishes to be associated with. (p. 118). He says this resulting condition was described by the "French sociologist Durkheim as 'anomie.' This I take to be a state of individual paralysis of social action due to the absence of effective norms of conduct." (p. 117). (JA: Also see alienation notes.
