Private behavior notes
From Katz (1964).
-- "The Volstead Act In similar fashion, employees do not regard the jurisdiction of the company as applying to their
private lives outside the plant. And areas of private behavior and personal taste are regarded in our democratic society as outside the realm of coercive laws. The most spectacular instance of the violation of a
national law occurred in the case of the Volstead Act. While people were willing to accept laws about the social consequences resulting from drinking, such as reckless driving, many of them were not willing to accept the notion that their private lives were subject to federal regulation." (p. 136).
