Between-persons relationships
All definitions

"Between-persons" relationships "are the relationships that occur and can be observed between or among people," (Briner, 2008, p. 290). However, the term (without context) is a bit misleading: "Between-persons" relationships are not really about what kinds of relationships happen between or among Persons A, B and C.
Rather, they are about some measure that represents Persons A, B and C as a group or unit. Thus, between person-relationships occur at the group, organizational or societal level of analysis. Quite often, cross-sectional studies, where measures are taken at only one point in time are used to study between-persons relationships. In contrast, "within-persons" relationships are about what happens to (or within) a single individual over time. They are studied at the individual level of analysis and can only be conducted using longitudinal methodologies, in which measures are taken at multiple points over time.
